Black Salt (Kala Namak, which is literal translation in Hindi) is a dark brown Indianrock salt with a pungent and tangy flavor. The pungent flavor and aroma is due to presence sodium sulfide in the salt (along with sodium chloride). It is integral ingredient of chat masala, and extensively used in chutney, raitas etc.
It is believed to help in digestion of food and easily available in most Indian and South Asian stores.
