Vark (also spelled varak ) is a very thin edible foil (sheets) of silver or gold sheets used as a garnish usually on Indian desserts, Paan, biryani , and sometimes on other dishes. According to historians, moghul cusine, who believed it was aphrodisiac, started using the silver or gold leafs. Varak is handmade by continuously hammering metal between the leather pads. The thin silver or gold foil does not alter any flavor of the dish and just gives a majestic look.
