About Rajma

Rajma is word for red kidney beans in India. Typically Rajma is served as a dal-cum-vegetable stew and served with basmati rice or Indian breads. Rajma is very popular in northern India and relatively common througout India.

 Ingredients

1 cup dry red kidney beans (soaked overnight)
or

2 cups canned red kidney beans (drained)

1 cup julienne cut onion (red onion preferred)
1 medium size tomato chopped
2 tablespoon oil
2 dry whole dried red chilli (mirch)
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 tablesppon garlic paste
few pods of cardamom (elaichi)
garnish with cilantro (optional)
Salt to taste

 
 Preparation
1

Heat oil in medium heat.

2 Sauté onions untill golden brown.
3 Add red chilli, tomato, garam masala, cardomom, garlic paste. Simmer for few minutes.
4 Add kidney beans and salt. In case of soaked kidney beans, simmer on medium-low heat with 1 cup of water for 30 minutes or more. Add more water in necessary. In case of canned beans, simmer in low heat with 1/4 cup water for for 5-8 minutes.
5 Serve warm with basmati rice.
